The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys

2016. Directed by Shane Black

This film is the illegitimate love child of L.A. Confidential and Boogie Nights. A mystery handled by the epitome of The B Team.

A fun, incoherent murder mystery that leaves the story details in the background and the strong buddy cop performances in the fore. Crowe (in a weight gained tough guy skin) and Gosling (in an alcohol drenched suit) give amazing comedic performances. It was refreshing to see both of them stepping outside of their Hollywood pigeon holes and make a film that is what it is.

And what it is is simply an amazing comedic romp that doesn't let go throughout it's running time. Filmed with slick colors, hilarious, pitch perfect one liners, and some great homages to Black's other works, including, multiple hilarious Lethal Weapon nods.

The "elevator" scene is worth the price of admission for this story about two unlikely heroes, who, will never truly be heroes, but manage to become better people along the way.

Currently in theaters.
